Newborn Session Information
Nelson newborn, baby, Child and Family Photographer
Newborn Sessions are relatively new to the New Zealand Market. However I have been photographing Newborns in the Nelson Region for over three years. Information provided here are some of our most commonly asked questions. Please feel free to contact me if you'd like further information.
When should I book?
Newborn sessions should be booked while you are still pregnant. This will help us plan a session for you, and avoid disappointment should we not have any last minutes spaces available.
When is the best time to photograph my baby?
The best time is between 3 and 10 days, or within two weeks of your due date if you baby is prem. Baby's are sleepier, curlier, and skin tends to be less spotty. This timeframe is only a guide to make your session easier, It is not the 'be all and end all' of newborn photography. We can photograph a baby at any age and stage. The results may vary based on their age, but we can still try!
How long does a session take?
Sessions take an average of three hours, with lots of settling and feeding time in between photos. Please plan for three hours so you don't feel rushed. This will also help baby to settle.
What if my baby doesn't sleep!
We take a pretty relaxed approach to newborn photos. If your baby is under 14 days old and won't sleep during your session, we reschedule at no charge.
Can I have a photo with my baby? What about siblings?
Of course! It's an important time for your family and we'd be delighted to include your other children or yourself in the session. We suggest another adult brings siblings at the end of the session. Parents should consider clothing choices before the session, and feel free to bring a change of clothes. We suggest a simple black or white singlet for Mum, and a plain black t-shirt for Dad (or singlet).
Can I do anything to prepare my baby for their session?
Stick to your usual feeding routine, because we will top up bubs during your session anyway. A nice deep warm bath half an hour prior may help them to sleep. If you express, feel free to bring a bottle of expressed milk with you. This may come in handy! If you use a pacifier or have one on hand and are comfortable with using it for the short time during your session, bring this also. We know the use of pacifiers is a widely debated subject, however we have found them to be very effective during sessions.
